Welcome
Independent Scrutiny Panels were introduced by the Scottish Government to consider proposals for major changes in local NHS services in Scotland. The aim of independent scrutiny is to provide assurance to the public that all of the factors relevant to proposed service changes have been explored thoroughly and fully taken into account, therefore helping to maintain confidence in the change process.
Scottish Ministers are responsible for deciding which proposed service changes will be subject to independent scrutiny. In making such decisions, the benefits of independent scrutiny will be carefully weighed against the costs, on a case-by-case basis.
To date, three separate Panels have been set up:
- to consider revised proposals for Accident and Emergency services from NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Ayrshire & Arran
- to consider proposals for NHS services in the Clyde area, and
- to assess proposals by NHS Dumfries & Galloway to redesign healthcare in the region
This website contains information about each of these Panels. We hope that you will find it interesting, and would welcome your feedback.
