Membership
The Clyde Panel was chaired by Professor Angus Mackay. Professor Mackay has had a career of nearly 40 years with the Medical Research Council and the NHS, during which he has been continuously involved in the scientific appraisal of evidence in a wide variety of settings from consultant Psychiatrist to Physician Superintendent (the last in the UK) to Medical Director. Prof Mackay teaches at the University of Glasgow and has taught at the Universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh and St Andrews on neuropharmacology and psychiatry. He was formally Clinical Director of the MRC Neurochemical Pharmacology Unit, Cambridge, and served with distinction on numerous national health bodies including the Committee on the Safety of Medicines.
Relevant previous appointments include Chairman of the Health Technology Board for Scotland, Chairman of the Working Group on Mental Health Services in Scotland, Vice Chairman of the Health Services Research Committee, and Member of the NHS Policy Board.
Professor Peter Brunt is a retired consultant physician from Aberdeen and is Vice-President of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh.
Stuart Fair is a senior consultant at the Institute of Public Finance Limited; the management support services company of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy CIPFA.
John Hanlon is the Independent Case Examiner for the Department of Work & Pensions and was nominated by the Scottish Consumer Council. abc
